WHO WE ARE:
The National League of American Pen Women, INC. was founded in 1897
It is an organization for professional women in letters, visual arts and music.
The National League of American Pen Women promotes the development of the creative talents of professional women artists, writers, dramatists, lecturers and composers.
The League consists of local branches, (the local groups), state organizations and members-at- large. The memberships of 1473 professional women are divided among 78 branches throughout the United States. Headquarters are in the historic mansion at 1300 17th Street, N.W. Washington, DC 20036-1973. At one time it was the mansion of Robert Todd Lincoln. Constructed in 1887, it was purchased in 1951 by Dr. Dorothy Betts Marvin for NLAPW.
The Santa Clara County Branch (founded in 1922) awards annual monetary grants to high school students/college/women in the arts who excel in the areas of letters, art and music and to schools for use in these areas. The women use their grants to further their achievements.
Each year the Branch hosts a Celebrity Luncheon to honor individual women who have achieved professionalism in letters, music and art. A raffle and silent auction held at the luncheon generate monies to fund the awards.

Eligibility for Membership
To be eligible for Active Membership in The League, a women must be native-born naturalized citizen of the United States of America. She must have received payment in the commercial market for at least three original works of professional standard within the past five years in any of the membership classifications.
Credentials for Membership
Upon invitation to join The League, the candidate is asked to fill out an application for membership. The application is signed by a sponsor and an endorser who are active members in good standing. The application and three samples or more of professional work qualifying her for membership in Art, Letters or Music are the candidate’s credentials. The credentials are presented for approval by the branch membership committee and by the national membership committee.
